PorterVac – Without The Founder

Porter Vac is a specialist gutter cleaning and roof maintenance company based in Melbourne. Set up by Dave Porter in 2003, it was the first specialist gutter cleaning service of its kind to be established nationwide. Over the years its services have grown significantly and is regarded as more than just a roof care specialist by its ever-growing catalogue of happy clients.

Porter Vac was early to market and carved out this new niche as a gutter cleaning specialist. However, over the years, as new services were added to the product line, founder Dave Porter realised that his company needed systems and processes to maintain his high standards.

“I was very aware that we needed the systems and I needed to put the work in, to scale the business,” Dave confirms. “But I just don’t feel I physically have the time.”  Dave’s story will resonate with many business owner whose time is swallowed up by day-to-day running of the business operations.

“I’m starting to realise I’m just not capable of it,” Dave says, referring to his previous view of systems.

The Solution

Dave was introduced to SYSTEMology® via Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO).  “SYSTEMology® definitely resonated with me as something that we could implement,” he explains.

Having now applied the SYSTEMology® methodology, one big change Dave identified was that –  “Everybody needs a system to follow, which has been a bit of a mind shift for me!”

“Previously, I had to do it all, or my general manager had to do it all. And we’re all so busy! This has been a totally different approach! It’s had minimal input from me.”

Porter Vac continues to offer commercial and residential roof maintenance care across Melbourne, Australia and with the help of SYSTEMology® will have the foundations to expand nationwide.
